The Most Popular Room in the House Has a Tee Time

Inside one of MediaHead’s custom home golf simulator builds in Dallas, where golf technology, lighting, sound, and design come together in one unforgettable room.

There's something funny about home golf simulators. They start as a request for a place to practice your swing. Before long, they've become the room everyone keeps finding an excuse to use.

And suddenly, your perfectly good living room has some serious competition.

At MediaHead, designing and installing custom home golf simulators in Dallas has become one of our specialties. We've worked on some pretty incredible spaces throughout North Texas, and the more of these projects we complete, the more we understand the appeal.

Of course, having an excuse to play golf during the workday doesn't hurt either.

Come on in. Steve will show you around.

For one of our recent installations, MediaHead co-owner and Chief Innovator Steve Harman takes us behind the scenes to walk through the buildout, the technology, and all the details that went into creating a custom golf simulator inside a client's home.

It's a great look at just how much planning goes into a space like this, including quite a few things you might never notice once everything is finished.

It starts long before the first swing.

Every custom golf simulator installation begins with understanding the space and how the homeowner wants to use it.

There's the obvious stuff, like making sure there's enough room for a full swing, determining where the screen should go, and selecting the right golf simulation technology. Then there are the details that make the room comfortable and enjoyable when nobody is holding a golf club.

How will the lighting work? Where should the speakers go? How do we manage the acoustics? What happens when someone wants to watch a football game instead?

Our job is to think through all of it before the installation begins. After all, nobody wants to discover that their dream golf room has a projector hanging directly in the path of their driver.

The technology behind the perfect round.

For this particular project, we brought together some of our favorite brands in golf simulation technology.

Foresight Sports provides the technology that tracks the golf ball, capturing data that helps recreate each shot in the simulator. It's also incredibly useful for anyone who's serious about improving their game.

A BenQ projector brings the virtual course to life on a Carl's Place impact screen, while turf from Pro Putt Systems helps complete the playing surface.

Together, these components create an immersive golf experience that homeowners can enjoy whenever they feel like picking up a club.

No tee time required. And absolutely no need to worry about the weather.

Of course, there's more to the room than golf.

This is where our experience with luxury home technology really comes into play.

For this installation, we incorporated acoustic panels from Acoustic Geometry to help manage sound within the space. Sonance in-ceiling speakers, powered by Sonos amplifiers, provide audio for music and entertainment.

Lighting was another major part of the design.

We used Lucetta CI LED lighting throughout the golf simulator, bar, and behind the TVs to add depth and atmosphere. DMF Luxury recessed lighting provides illumination from above, while Lutron lighting controls make it easy to adjust the room's lighting to suit the occasion.

These details help turn the golf simulator into a space where people can spend an entire evening, whether they're playing a round, watching a game, or hanging out with friends.

And yes, having a bar nearby certainly helps.

Custom Home Golf Simulators in Dallas: Why Design Matters

One of the questions we hear from homeowners is whether they can add a golf simulator to an existing room.

The answer depends on the space, particularly the ceiling height, available dimensions, and room layout. But there are often more possibilities than people initially realize. Some clients want a dedicated indoor golf simulator built around their game. Others envision an entertainment room that can accommodate golf, movies, music, and gatherings with friends.

That's what makes these projects so interesting for our team. No two homes are exactly alike, and the finished system should reflect the way each homeowner plans to use it.

We also know that technology is much more enjoyable when it's easy to operate. All those components need to work together without making the homeowner feel like they're running a production studio every time they want to play nine holes.
